The homeless epidemic is at an all time high in the United States. Housing has become so expensive that people making minimum wage cannot afford rent. A recent report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition showed that a full-time minimum wage worker can only afford a one-bedroom rental in 7% of all US counties. The recent global pandemic has only made matters worse, as many will struggle to afford their rent prices in the future now that emergency relief funds are running dry. Unfortunately, for the first time since the government began counting the number of homeless individuals, the number of single adults living outside far exceeded the number of individuals living in shelters in 2020. Disheartening statistics such as these are the reason we need to spread awareness of the homelessness problem and start working on solutions. That is why Lutz, Shafranski, Gorman & Mahoney, P.A. have decided to hold their very first Helping Hand to the Homeless Nomination!
For this nomination, our law office is asking individuals to nominate a child who has done exceptional work in their community to combat homelessness. This can be anything from volunteering their time at a homeless shelter to making donations or raising awareness. The child selected as the winner will receive a $100 Amazon gift card AND a $400 donation will be made in their name to Elijah’s Promise. We are accepting nominations from now until September 30, 2021. If you know a child or young adult who is passionate about helping the homeless, be sure to nominate them in the form below!
